Italian triathlon eligibility: licenses and medical certificates

To start an Italian triathlon, you must meet one of the following:

Option 1: You are licensed (federated)

  • Hold a valid annual license from your national triathlon federation.
  • Send a copy to the organiser when requested and show it at the expo/race pack pickup.
  • This license must be valid on race day.

Option 2: You are not licensed

  • Provide a medical certificate stating fitness for competitive triathlon (per Italian regulations D.M. 18/02/1982).
  • Purchase a FITRI day membership (tessera giornaliera).
  • The medical certificate:
    • Can be issued in Italy or in your home country, as long as it complies with D.M. 18/02/1982.
    • Must be in English or Italian.
    • Typically includes exams such as blood pressure, height/weight, urinalysis, and a cardiac stress ECG.
    • Must explicitly state suitability for competitive triathlon.
    • Is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

IMPORTANT

Without a valid federation license or a compliant medical certificate plus a FITRI day membership, you will not be allowed to race and your registration fee will not be refunded.
